9 Juicy Website Tips For Turning Visitors Into Clients Like Crazy
As an entrepreneur, your website is your digital home. It’s so important that you make an amazing first impression on your potential clients. Having a beautiful website (especially if you’re new in business) is what’s going to help you stand out from the crowd and position you as the expert that you are.
Think about it. If you land on a website and it looks like a DIY amateur project, are you really going to whip out your credit card and sign up to work with them? Probably not. The same goes for your future clients.
And not only does your website need to look absolutely gorg, it also needs to include certain things and achieve certain goals. Having a successful business is about a lot more than just putting up a pretty website. Everything on your site has to be there on purpose.
The great news is that creating a stunning and optimized site doesn’t require you to spend hours and hours learning how to code or paying thousands of dollars to hire a web designer.
You can create a high-quality website for your brand and business yourself and it’s actually pretty easy and affordable. Seriously, I teach my clients how to do it.
But because I love you and want nothing more than for you to get started building your business ASAP, I’m sharing my top nine website tips for turning visitors into clients like crazy. Let’s dive in.
Use High-Quality Personal Branding Photos
If you have a personal brand, it is absolutely crucial that you have your beautiful face featured throughout your website. As a service-based solopreneur, you are essentially the product.
People are not buying into your service. They are buying into you and in order for them to feel comfortable handing over their credit card information, they need to feel like they know you and trust you, which is why having really good personal branding photos shot by a professional is so important. (Check out my hot tips for prepping for your first personal branding photoshoot right here!)
It’s all about how you want your audience to see you. Do you want them to see you as the newbie business owner who shot her photos on an iPhone? Or do you want to be seen as the expert who’s confident and knows she has a ton of value to offer?
Personal branding photos are a total game changer and are more than worth the investment. They will instantly elevate your business and make you look like a total pro even if you’re just starting out.
Put Your Lead Magnet Front And Center
One of the main goals of your website is to get people onto your email list. Once they’re on your email list, you now have a way to stay in regular touch with them and you can begin to nurture that relationship with them. So in order to do that, you need to have a really juicy free gift (also known as a lead magnet, freebie, or opt-in) to entice them to join your email list.
Your lead magnet must be very closely related to the service that you offer and strategically attract your dream clients. You want your lead magnet to be absolutely irresistible to them. It has to be something that they need and they are dying to learn more about.
There are many different ways you can deliver the freebie to your new subscribers. I love using Leadpages for this. You can create landing pages and sign up forms that are very beautiful (aesthetics are important!) and easy to create. Then I sync it with Convertkit to ensure they get added to my email list.
And don’t just put your lead magnet all the way at the bottom of your site! You want it to be front and center on your home page all the way at the top so that they don’t miss it. You also want to sprinkle it throughout your website as well. That includes on your about page, blog posts, sidebar, etc. The more places you can put it, the better.
Make It Super Duper Clear Who You Are & What You Do
This is something I see so many new entrepreneurs miss and it’s absolutely essential. When someone lands on your website, you have just a few seconds to catch their attention so not only do you want to make an amazing first impression by having a beautiful website you also want to make it crystal clear who you are, who you help, and what problem you help them solve. Like ridiculously clear. Don’t expect people to just know.
I can’t tell you how many sites I’ve seen and even after 10 minutes of exploring their website, I still don’t quite understand what they do. If you confuse people, they are just going to exit out. Make it super clear.
A short statement like this is essentially your brand bio or elevator pitch, which quickly explains who you are and what you do. It’s something you’d say if someone asked you what you do at a party. It’s short, simple, and to the point.
This is something I help my clients get crystal clear on because it really is the foundation of everything in your business. If you’re not clear on what you do and who you help, how do you expect a client to hire you?
Make It Visually Attractive
When someone lands on your website, it might be the very first time they’re “meeting you” online and it’s so freaking important that you WOW them and having a website that is visually stunning is key.
Even if you’re not tech savvy or have no graphic design or website design skills, you’d be surprised how easy it is to create a gorgeous website. I walk my 1:1 coaching clients through the process with step-by-step tutorials but here I want to share with you a few key starting points so you can go live with your dream site:
Use WordPress.org. It’s what I use and recommend to all my clients. I promise you, it’s not as scary as it may seem— especially when you have someone walk you through all the steps!
Purchase your domain and hosting through Bluehost. Next, you need to purchase your domain and hosting. Hosting is basically a space on the internet where your website can call home. I love Bluehost because it’s pretty easy to use, really affordable, and their customer service is great in case you run into any issues.
Install a beautiful theme. Okay, so this is the fun part: Choosing a WordPress theme! There are tons of free ones available inside WordPress but in order to really establish yourself as a premium brand, you need to invest in a premium theme. The good news is that themes are pretty budget-friendly. I love, use, and recommend the Divi theme by Elegant Themes. It’s actually more of a site builder than a theme. It’s all drag and drop and very intuitive, which means no coding knowledge is necessary and it offers endless customization capabilities so you can switch things up as your brand and business grows.
Using Bluehost and the Divi theme, you can get a beautiful site that WOWS your dream clients up and running over a weekend. Seriously. It’s that easy to have a beautiful website so there’s no excuses!
Include Calls To Action
Another thing I see a lot of new entrepreneurs miss are calls to action. A call to action is basically you telling your website visitor exactly what next action you want them to take. This can be to sign up for your newsletter, leave a comment, apply to work with you, book a free consultation, click here, etc. You have to tell them what to do. Don’t expect people to just know. It’s your job to make it super easy for visitors to become a client.
The Divi theme actually has a call to action module with a button that makes it a breeze to put calls to action all over your website. Every single page should have a call to action. If you’re finding that clients are not rolling in, this might be something you need to add or tweak— stat!
Highlight Your Uniqueness
The #1 way to virtually eliminate your competition is to embrace and incorporate your uniqueness into your business and website. People don’t want to work with someone who is just like everyone else. That’s boring. They want to work with someone they feel connected to and someone who’s vibe they dig. So by highlighting the things that make you unique on your website, you give people an opportunity to create a connection with you.
You know when you first meet someone and you realize you have a common interest, that instantly helps create a bond with them.
Sharing your truth and all the things that make you YOU on your website has that same effect on potential clients and it’s those little details that make someone choose to work with you over someone who is offering a similar service.
Write Powerful Website Copy
Writing is my jam so this is probably my favorite part of creating a website that turns visitors into clients. I started off my career as a freelance fashion writer and editor and have written literally THOUSANDS of articles for major magazines and publications such as Los Angeles Confidential and Refinery29. I’ve also created content and copy for big name Fortune 500 companies such as Ticketmaster and Madison Square Garden Company so I know what makes good copy and trust me it so vital to the success of your business.
That’s exactly why it’s such a huge focus with the work I do with my clients because you can be the best at what you do and have a beautiful biz set up but if you can’t communicate with your ideal clients why they should work with you, it’s going to be a real struggle to book clients.
So my clients are not only getting a business coach with five years of entrepreneurial experience under her belt, they also get a copywriting coach who helps them uplevel their writing (hiring a copywriter for your biz alone can cost you thousands of dollars), and their very own editor because I personally edit and review their copy. Copywriting is definitely a skill in and of itself and it takes some practice to find your flow but it’s so much easier to find your unique voice when you have some expert help.
What I suggest as a starting point is to write how you would talk to a friend. Use language and words that you use in everyday life. Keep it fun and conversational. You don’t want to come off as super stuffy and professional. Your clients want to hire someone that feels like their friend, not their boss. Most importantly, have fun with your copy. Make it sound so good that it makes you want to hire yourself!
Implement SEO Strategies
SEO, which stands for Search Engine Optimization, is another biggie when it comes to your dream business website that converts. It’s all about using the right keywords to attract your dream clients so that they can find your site and your awesome content.
Implementing SEO strategies is exactly what’s gotten blog posts for my own business and for my clients to rank on the first page of Google which is a really BIG deal. Ranking on the first page of Google means your ideal clients are able to find you easily.
Google “Cindy Crawford wellness tips” and you’ll find my interview with her for Los Angeles Confidential magazine as an example.
Your Sales Page Needs To Be On Fire
Lastly, your sales page needs to be on point. Slapping together a page that just has a picture and maybe some bullet points about your service just isn’t going to cut it. Typically, the more expensive the service, the more copy your sales page needs to have but not just any copy.
Your sales page copy needs to do three key things:
Tap into on your dream client’s pain points. What is your dream client struggling with right now? What is her main problem? Touch on that in your copy. It’s important that you make them feel like you get where they are and how they’re feeling and position yourself as the expert who will get them to where they want to be.
Focus on the destination. People don’t really care about all the bells and whistles that your service includes. They care more about the results that working with you will give them. Focus on that end goal.
Have a clear call to action. Make it super easy for them to hire you. Tell them exactly what next step they need to take to start working with you such as “book a call” or “sign up now.”
