20 Things To Do This Summer For Your Happiest Summer Ever


I’m all about living your best life so with summer officially in full swing, I’m sharing my list of the top 20 things to do this summer to have your happiest, healthiest, and best summer evah. Piña coladas not included.

1. Hydrate

I can’t stress the importance of hydration enough. Whenever I’m feeling kind of blah, I chug a glass of cold water and instantly I feel alive again. It’s magic. Staying hydrated during the summer months is especially important. I’m obsessed with my Swell water bottles because they keep your water nice and chilled for hours.

2. Go Pantsless

I don’t know about you but I hate wearing pants during the summertime. They’re so restricting and don’t vibe with the effortless and breezy spirit of the season. From June through November (yes, LA summers are super long), I have a strict no-pants policy and it feels ahhhhmazing. I pretty much live in shorts, dresses, and rompers all season.

3. Watch A Sunset

And by watch a sunset I mean really watch a sunset. Put your phone down (after you take a picture for the ‘gram, of course) and really soak it all in. Marveling over the beauty of it makes it more magical.

 4. Work Outside

If you’re lucky enough to have the option to take your work outside with you, please do it! The weather is just too darn beautiful to spend all day inside. I’ve noticed that working outside, even if it’s just for a couple of hours a day, really boosts my productivity. Don’t underestimate the power of some fresh air and sunshine. 

5. Choose A Summer Anthem

I vividly remember dancing the night away to Pitbull’s Give Me Everything in Puerto Rico the summer of 2011. And Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe always takes me back to summer 2012 when I was fresh out of college. Choose a song to be your personal summer anthem and listen to it on repeat every single day. I’m currently loving Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee, and Justin Bieber’s Despacito. It makes me want to dance!

6. Meditate Outside 

If you’ve never tried meditating outside, oh my goodness are you in for a real treat. It’s next-level magic. Feeling the breeze blow through your hair and listening to birds chirping or ocean waves crashing is orgasmic. You don’t need to be an experienced meditator either, just close your eyes, breathe deeply, and listen.

7. Eat Tons Of Fruit

One of my favorite things to do during summer is to eat copious amounts of fruit. Watermelon and pineapple are my faves. But I’ll also never say no to a juicy, grilled beach drizzled with balsamic vinegar and topped with gluten-free granola. My mouth is watering as I type. 

8. Have A Beach Day

This one’s a no-brainer. It’s basically illegal to let the summer go by without having a beach day. The ocean is incredibly soothing. If you’re based in LA, I highly recommend Point Dume in Malibu. It’s beyond gorgeous. The parking is easy and it’s never too crowded. The view from atop the cliff is phenomenal and every time I go I spot whales and dolphins! 

9. Enjoy A Picnic At The Park

Pack yourself a yummy lunch (or if you’re lazy like me, order something to-go) and enjoy it at the park. It’s SO peaceful! And if time allows, I highly suggest taking a little afternoon nap under a shady tree.

10. Soak Up The Sunshine

Make it a point to get your daily dose of Vitamin D and spend as much time as possible outside because #summer. Just don’t forget to slather on the SPF. Bonus points if it’s non-toxic. My current fave is Beautycounter’s Protect All Over Sunscreen SPF 30.

11. Chill At The Pool

No explanation needed. Get yourself to a pool, stat.

12. Feed Your Mind

Make the most out of summer’s laid-back vibe and set and intention to slow down and catch up on your reading. Personally, I like to skip the easy beach reads for something more positive and filled with knowledge. I’m currently reading (and loving!) Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav. It’s Oprah-recommended. Nuff said.

13. Check In With Your Goals

With half the year under our belt (say, what!?), summer is the perfect time to check in with our yearly goals. Celebrate what you’ve already accomplished and check in with your remaining goals. Do they still feel aligned with where you want to go in life? If yes, then figure out how you can work to achieve them moving forward. If the answer is no, then drop them goals like they’re hot.

14. Go On A Getaway

Whether it’s a beachy vacay on the other side of the globe or just a two-hour road trip away, going on a summer getaway will give you so much life. It’s so important to disconnect from the busyness of everyday life, celebrate the moment, and just have some freaking fun.

15. Have Fun Under The Stars

Whether you chill out by a fire pit or dance under the moonlight, having some outdoor summer night fun under the stars is a must. Sip some wine, enjoy the cool breeze, blast your aforementioned summer anthem, take lots of pictures, and luxuriate in all of the magic summer nights bring.

16. Make Every Day A Celebration

What I love most about summertime is that every day feels special just because it’s summer. And when you’re having one of those days that don’t feel so special, just decide that it will be a special day and then do something special. Go on a spontaneous adventure, make it a me-day and pamper yourself, or pop open that bottle of champagne you’ve been saving. Every day is a special occasion if you choose to make it one.

17. Practice Grounding

This one is one of my favorites and it’s totally free! The idea is to basically have direct contact with the earth sans shoes. So go for a walk on the beach or run around barefoot on grass. It’s downright therapeutic to feel connected to the earth in that way. Do it as much as possible this summer to decrease anxiety and feel more centered and balanced.

18. Immerse Yourself In A New Hobby

I personally love scrapbooking. It’s nerdy, I know, but I find it so fun to do something creative with my hands. Summer is the perfect time to give some attention and energy to a hobby that you’ve always wanted to try or one that you’ve neglected for a long time. It’ll refuel you and inspire you like no other. Promise! 

19. Refresh And De-Clutter Your Space

There’s something about summertime that makes me want to clean, refresh, and de-clutter my home to make space (literally and metaphorically) for new and wonderful things to flow into my life.

20. Step Up Your Gratitude Practice

Summer is already soaked in high vibes so why not ramp up those good vibes up even more by stepping up your gratitude practice? My favorite way to do it is by writing gratitude lists. And because it’s summer, I like to pour myself a nice a tall glass of cold water, serve myself some juicy fruit, and go sit outside on my porch to write in my journal. Total bliss.
