How To Use Affirmations to Manifest Your Dream Life
Affirmations are one of my favorite manifestation rituals, which is why it’s something I cover with my coaching clients in my Manifestation Coaching Program. The tricky part is getting them to work for you. I’ve been practicing them for years now but it took me awhile to really understand how to use them to transform my life. Here, I’m sharing the tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way so you too can use them to manifest your dream reality.
Choose One Affirmation to Work With
Instead of reading a long list of affirmations every day, I tell my manifestation coaching clients to just choose one or two affirmations that they want to focus on at a time. You can work with these affirmations for a few weeks or months. Once you feel like you truly embody them, have manifested what you want, or just don’t need them anymore, then you can pick a new affirmation and rinse and repeat.
Flip the Switch on Your Limiting Belief
Okay, so how do you choose the right affirmation to work with? The process that I take my clients through starts by first digging into what limiting beliefs are standing in the way of your manifestation. Once you pinpoint the biggest limiting belief, then you simply come up with a positive statement that is the opposite of it. For example, if your biggest limiting belief is that “making money is hard.” Then if you flip that, your affirmation would be “making money is easy.”
Make It Believable
Manifestation is all about the incremental upgrade, meaning it’s easier to make small leaps then it is to make huge ones. The same goes for your affirmations. If you’re in financial scarcity, affirming that you’re a millionaire isn’t going to work. Your subconscious mind will completely reject that because it’s so far from where you currently are.
Your affirmation should feel like a stretch but should still be believable for where you are now. That’s why I recommend keeping it as simple as possible and not getting too specific with it. It’s okay if it’s a bit more general because it eliminates resistance.
For example, one of the affirmations that I worked with for months last year was: “My income is constantly increasing.” It didn’t include a specific income number because that would have just made me stress out about how it was going to happen and that’s the universe’s job, not mine.
Repeat It All Day Long
When it comes to affirmations, it’s all about repetition. In order for it to sink into your subconscious mind, you have to repeat it over and over again. I like to find pockets of time in my day where I can squeeze them in. I repeat them in my mind while I’m showering, brushing my teeth, washing dishes, driving, or waiting in line at the grocery store. The more you say it, the faster you’ll see results.
I also recommend setting up reminders for yourself. You can write your affirmation down on sticky notes and sprinkle them throughout your home or set them as alarms on your phone that go off throughout the day. Make it fun.
Repeat It When You’re Sleepy
The two most important times to recite your affirmation is right before you fall asleep and right after you wake up when you’re still in that sleepy state. When you’re in this really relaxed state, you’re in theta brain wave which is where your subconscious mind lives so it’s a lot easier for your subconscious mind to absorb it.
Feel the Emotion Wash Over You
Another key thing to do to make an affirmation work for you is to really tap into the emotion behind it. I like to put my hand over my heart when I say it and just spend a few seconds breathing into it and feeling the vibration of those powerful words wash over me until I feel it all over my body. This will supercharge your affirmation and make you feel so good.
Practice Mirror Work
I learned about mirror work from the late Louise Hay, aka the queen of affirmations. It’s such an easy way to take your affirmations to the next level. Mirror work is essentially just looking at yourself in a mirror while you say your affirmations. It’s especially powerful if you’re working on deepening your self-love, which is something we all need more of.
Write Out Your Affirmation
Another one of my favorite affirmations rituals (okay, they’re all my favorite) is to write it out in a journal over and over again. The exact number doesn’t matter. This is just another way to help your subconscious mind take it in. Again, it’s all about repetition and consistency.
Tap Them In
One of the downsides of affirmations and why they don’t seem to work for a lot of people is that they can take a long time to really embed them into your subconscious mind. I don’t know about you, but I like to shift things quickly, which is why I LOVE EFT (emotional freedom technique) also known as tapping.
This simple technique involves tapping on certain pressure points on your face and body in order to release negative beliefs and reprogram your subconscious mind in a much faster way— like within minutes! It’s such a profound healing modality.
With tapping, you don’t need to repeat an affirmation a few thousand times to start to see some changes. You can hop on YouTube and search tapping videos on the specific issue you want to target. However, it is best to get specific with tapping and videos tend to be more general so they might not be as effective.
